Adult Recovery Services

Adult Recovery Services provide intervention and treatment for chemical dependency issues, as well as psychiatric problems that may exist alongside the chemical dependency. The primary goal is to provide patients with the skills and resources needed to maintain a lifetime of recovery.

Detox Treatment

Sometimes a patient may first need detoxification from alcohol or drugs. For these patients we offer a medically-monitored detox which is provided simultaneously with substance abuse education and therapy to help prevent a relapse.

Detoxification on an inpatient basis is typically indicated for alcohol, heroin, and certain prescription medications due to the potential for life-threatening or medically complicating symptoms. The need for detox depends upon the amount and frequency of use, the individual's history of substance abuse, and individual biological and medical factors. Patients who are receiving detox treatment are closely monitored 24 hours a day by a psychiatrist, nurses, and mental health technicians.

Treatment Plan for Recovery

Treatment also includes individual, group, and family therapy and focuses on substance abuse education. The substance abuse education focuses on:

  • the physical, emotional, and mental factors involved in chemical dependency,
  • information about the consequences of continued substance abuse,
  • developing relapse prevention skills

Community resources for patients are identified, and patients are assisted in developing a network of community, social support through these community resources.

12 Step Model of Recovery

Patients also begin working the 12-step model of recovery through meetings held at the hospital. Emotions Anonymous is also included to equip patients in coping with feelings and emotions without relying on the "numbing" effects of drugs or alcohol.

Aftercare Plan

The development of an aftercare plan is essential to preventing a relapse. Patients are expected to continue with outpatient treatment with community providers. Patients are expected to participate in the development of an aftercare plan and to follow the aftercare instructions to maintain recovery.
